Instagram Introduces Web Profiles

Two years after it arrived on the iPhone, Instagram launched a web companion for users of its photo-sharing and filtering app Monday.

This feature is being gradually rolled out to users, and resembles Facebook Timeline. An animated, rotating mosaic of Instagram photos occupies about the same amount of space as Facebook Timeline’s Cover photo; a small profile image, short bio and follower stats are situated just beneath. Photo thumbnails are organized in reverse-chronological order further down the page.

Instagram Appears to Have Passed 25 Million Users

It appears Instagram may have passed the 25 million total users mark, if a bit of sleuthing around its API is to be believed.

Instagram logo captureLondon-based Dirk Singer spotted, via a couple of Instagram apps – Statigram and Ink361 – that individual user numbers showed up in the apps’ user profile URLs. The numbers are consistent between the apps, indicating that they’re the unique numbers used by Instagram to identify each user.

When Dirk checked four and a half hours ago at the time of writing, the highest account number he could find was 25,973,449.

Given that the highest user number right now is almost at 26 million, even with a generous margin for error, that’s safely 25 million. With estimates that the number of photos shared on Instagram are growing at twice the rate of Flickr, and the company targeting the Asian market with its latest update, the figure is unsurprising.

The Launch of the Ford “Fiestagram” Campaign

Ford is releasing is its newest  model of one of their best selling international cars, the Fiesta. How did they go about creating buzz for their new car? With a social media campaign using the popular photo taking application, Instagram.

Called the Fiestagram campaign, Ford told users different features each week, and had their followers take pictures reflective of that theme. People would submit pictures on Facebook, and showcase them on Twitter with hashtags that Ford had assigned. These submissions were voted on by a panel of judges, and the grand prize, a Ford Fiesta of course. Additionally, Ford would showcase these pictures on digital billboards in Europe and with physical gallery exhibitions.
