Facebook Makes It Official: An External Advertising Network is Coming Soon

Businessweek shares that Facebook is now going to use the data it has about your likes and dislikes to show you ads outside of Facebook. This is the first real confirmation that the company is going to roll out an advertising network that extends beyond just its own walled garden, and it could turn out to be one of the biggest factors in the success or failure of Facebook’s revenue-growth strategy.

Sponsored stories are one way of trying to solve that problem. An external advertising network—one that uses information about users and their activity on Facebook as a way of targeting external ads on other websites—is another way.

Facebook Gives New Mobile Page Ads More Color And Context

Facebook is trying out another new look for its mobile page-Like Sponsored Story ads.  According to InsideFacebook, The latest design features larger images to catch users’ eyes and more context to encourage users to convert directly from the mobile feed.

The design is similar to what Facebook introduced for mobile app install ads last month, with a horizontal image across the top, a longer description and more social context. Images and copy are pulled from a page’s cover photo, profile picture and about section, so advertisers should consider how well their cover photo works when scaled down to fit mobile and when a portion is blocked by their profile image.

Pinterest Launches Pinterest for Brands

Up until now, companies on Pinterest have technically been in violation of the service’s rules, which forbade commercial usage.  Econsultancy reports that the official rules of engagement changed yesterday, however, as Pinterest officially launched Pinterest for Business.

That user flow provides for verification, like Twitter’s verified accounts, as well as easier access to new buttons and widgets. Pinterest has also created a dedicated site for businesses, which contains best practices, case studies and documentation. The goal of providing this content: “help businesses interact with people the right way.”

Facebook’s ‘promote’ button rolls out beyond pages to some personal accounts

InsideFacebook reports that Facebook continues to gauge interest in an option for users to pay to promote personal posts at the top of friends’ News Feeds.

Users who are part of the test will see a promote button next to Like and comment on a user’s Facebook posts. After clicking “promote,” users will be taken through a payment flow.

People who have chosen to enable subscribers might be interested in the feature since they have a wider audience than most users. There may be other cases when a user would be willing to pay a few dollars to make sure that friends see a post.

Facebook ends Reach Generator program in favor of Promoted Posts product

Facebook has ended the Reach Generator program for premium advertisers.

Reach Generator allowed advertisers to pay Facebook on an ongoing basis, as opposed to a CPC or CPM basis, to sponsor their page posts and guarantee a 75 percent reach of the page’s fanbase over a month-long period.

Since then, the social network has opened up opportunities for pages to reach users more effectively.

Facebook also recently introduced Promoted Posts for pages with more than 400 Likes. This makes it easier for pages to increase the reach of their posts without going through the ad dashboard. Like Reach Generator, Promoted Posts ask advertisers to pay a set fee to reach a portion of their existing audience.
