4 Ideas For Better Social Media Measurement

The elusive social media return on investment is proven for everyone who has enabled an effective measurement process.  To help you get started, following are four ideas to help you improve your social measurement.

1. Show the Entire Digital Customer Journey — Not Just Last-Click: Modern web analytics tools go beyond last-click attribution and show the entire journey a customer takes before they convert.

2. Make Your Own Site Your Social Hub: If accurate, robust measurement is a concern and you want to drive results in a high-conversion environment, your own site is the place to form a strategy around.

3. Set up Conversion Goals: Go beyond key performance indicators (KPIs) like followers and visitors, and even beyond macro conversions such as revenue and leads generated.

4. Measure Social Interaction on Your Site: Measuring the social actions users take on your own site is powerful, and can act as a strong indicator of the shareability of your content in social channels.

Men Close Gap with Women On Social Networks

In February, eMarketer forecasted there would be nearly 158 million social network users in the US this year.

More than half of those users are women, and eMarketer expects this trend to continue throughout the forecast period, though the percentages will not be far off from 50-50.

On Facebook in particular, though, the skew toward women is significantly greater: Nearly 55% of Facebook users this year will be women, down from 57% in 2010 and expected to fall further to 53.2% by 2014.

SAP Brands B2B Social Media Profiles as Part of Global Campaign

Earlier this year B2B company SAP launched their “Run Like Never Before” campaign. There is no lesson in the fact that the enterprise software company launched an ad campaign, but it is instructive to look at how they supported it with social media.

Facebook: SAP updated their Facebook Timeline cover photo with a graphic image from the campaign. This makes a big statement about what message they want to convey to visitors. B2B companies should think of the cover photo as their first impression on Facebook.

Twitter: SAP updated their Twitter background with images from the campaign. If your B2B company has the resources to develop a compelling look and feel for your company, make sure to extend that to your Twitter background. SAP was also able to leverage Twitter’s enhanced profile pages.
